Despite having a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in Management Consulting, Monique is a regular on the Vancouver comedy scene. She had her start in comedy as an improviser but wanted to have the spotlight all to herself as she doesn’t play well with others. For those that like their comedy with an edge, Monique’s stand-up is a wonderful paradox of incisive sarcasm delivered in a cute, sweet way. Helps explain why her mother called her Demon-ique as a child. Although Monique is Métis, most of her stand-up comedy isn’t necessarily about being Aboriginal...it’s about her experiences, observations and what makes her laugh. Appearances can be deceiving and this is certainly the case with Monique. She loves to challenge the status quo. Monique says the kinds of things people think but would never admit to and definitely would not expect to hear from a woman. Monique has been featured in The Globe & Mail and can be seen on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) as a fitness expert. She has contributed to Chatelaine Magazine and IDEA Fitness Journal. Aside from stand-up comedy, Monique is an experienced public speaker, facilitator and educator. Seems she can't get enough of being in front of people and telling them what to do! Monique is Métis. For those that like their comedy with an edge, Monique’s stand up is a wonderful paradox of incisive sarcasm delivered in a cute, sweet way. Helps explain why her mother called her Demon-ique as a child.

Monique is a mix of Métis, First Nations and French.

Huh? She’s a personal trainer too and blogs at Lady Rubaboo and My Weird Landlord. What doesn’t she do? Defy gravity (yet). Ms. Monique has contributed to Chatelaine Magazine and IDEA Fitness Journal. Monique is an experienced public speaker, workshop facilitator and consultant. Seems this lady (ha! lady, good one) can’t get enough of being in front of people and telling them what to do.

Based in Vancouver BC, Monique entertains audiences across Canada. Book Monique for stand up comedy, as host/emcee or how's about a fun and interactive workshop?!  Monique is a skilled facilitator and instructor too. What clients have to say...

ABOUT MONIQUE'S COMEDY
Monique turned out to be the best choice for entertainment at our annual Honouring Our Mothers and Grandmothers event. Her performance is still receiving rave reviews throughout our community and there are people who have heard about her performance, who are now asking when she will be back. In our culture we consider laughter to be one of the best medicines, making Monique a healer among our people. She was very personable and got along extremely well with everyone, especially with the facilitators of the event. All of whom have remained in contact, even after the events completion, which speaks volumes in itself.
~ Juanita Nikal, Health Director, Moricetown Health Centre, Moricetown, BC

ABOUT MONIQUE'S COMEDY
When Monique Hurteau was hired as the entertainment for our Employment Conference I had no idea what to expect. But I had a very good feeling about her and thought she would be a great fit. Especially when she arrived early and made a point of getting to know the people at the conference. She really and truly was like someone coming home. All participants enjoyed her humour and overall pleasant nature. Coming from one end of the country to the other end, showed there is not a lot of difference when you’re Native, you are all one big family. Her entertainment was poking fun at herself and some of the funny things in life and growing-up Native. A lesson we took home from her visit was: "Laugh at yourself and not take life too serious- This is the key to staying young.
~ Brenda Restoule, Employment & Training Manager, Nipissing First Nation, Garden Village, ON

"PHYSICAL ACTIVITY MEDICINE WHEEL" WORKSHOP
Thank you again for coming to speak with the group at So-Sah-Latch yesterday, Monique. You have a wonderful ability to connect to people in a genuine way and the information you shared is so important to our health and wellness.

HEALTH & WELLNESS TALK FOR ABORIGINAL DIABETES WORKERS
I want to thank you for the time you spend on teaching me about being physical no matter where we are. You are one of the people that I can trust to teach and facilitate because you look like you are actually doing what you teach. You’re the best, Monique.
~ Hector Hill, Alcohol & Drug Counsellor Native Courtworkers & Counselling Association of BC
